Coalition Fighting Prescription Drug Abuse

Officials and professionals in Delta County are tired of watching prescription drug abuse take hold of their community, and they're doing something about it. The Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse gave its first presentation Thursday at the Escanaba High School. The group, made of legal and medical professionals, as well as law enforcement officers, is the first of its kind in the U.P. They're working with students to get a grip on the region's most prevalent drug problem. "What we really want to do is raise public awareness of this issue, but we also want to deter kids who may be thinking this is something they want to try and hopefully stop those who are in the midst of recreational use," explained Delta County Prosecutor Steve Parks.
