A commitment to wipe out drug abuse

Muscat: Ahmad Bin Rashid Al Maamary, Undersecretary at the Social Development Ministry, highlighted the importance of combatting drug abuse. Speaking during the opening of the national conference on drug abuse held as part of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Al Maamary urged the public to co-operate with concerned authorities to combat drugs and protect children from the menace. "The Sultanate's initiative to join the rest of the world in observing the International Day underlines the importance accorded to the issue," he said, adding that Islam forbids anything that affects the mental ability of humans in social development. In the inaugural address, Dr Ali Jaffer, Adviser for the Ministry of Health, highlighted the country's commitment to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking by participation in international, regional and local committees dealing with the problem.
