NGOs should play role for eradicating menace of drug-addiction: S ...

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Pakistan Railways Shaikh Rashid Ahmed has urged non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to play their role for eliminating the menace of drug-addiction from Pakistan. He was addressing a seminar held in connection with World Anti-drugs Day on Wednesday. Mr Ahmed noted that over 4 million people were drug-addicts in Pakistan and there was need of launching proper drive against drug -addiction in the country. He said that as the number of drug-addicts are increasing in slum areas, government should construct hospitals for the treatment of drug-addicts. Mr Ahmed observed that Pakistan had become a big market of heroin because drugs were being imported in the country. He said that people should have soft corner for drug-addicts rather than harbouring hate for them so that they could live better life in the society.
