THE ever-increasing seizure of drugs in different parts of the country, especially in Kathmandu, in the recent past, affirms that the problem of drug abuse has assumed alarming proportions in Nepal. Indeed, Nepal has been accorded the status of an efficient passage for drug traffickers. Economically weak sections Not only has Nepal been a route for drug trafficking, it has also started facing the menace of drug abuse far and wide. In the past, most of the perceptive observers of the drug abuse scenario wondered if Nepal would be affected by the problem as adversely as the affluent west. Today, it is no more a matter of speculation; it is a fact of life. The menace of drug abuse is here, and its presence is made worse by the fact that it has affected the productive age group the most. Unfortunately, it has afflicted the economically weaker sections the most.
