Drug court offers ways to combat addiction
Graham County is arming itself with a new weapon to combat the ever-escalating war on drug addiction: Drug Court.The program has swept across the United States in the past two decades as a new way for dealing with drug addiction in youths. A new drug court will be in place, hopefully by the end of the month, according to Safford Magistrate D. Corey Sanders. The court will use its initial backing of $18,000 in funds the county received to kick start the program."We would love to have more, but before we ever got those funds, we were committed to doing this at our cost," Graham County deputy prosecutor C. Allan Perkins said.Perkins, who along with officers from the probation department and Judge Sanders, attended a training seminar at the end of July to prepare them for running the drug court.
